Award-winning riverside promenade reconnects East Village and Calgarians to our Bow River
Paving the way to extraordinary returns on investment
Infrastructure upgrades attract investment from local and national developers.
A ground-up (and forward-thinking) approach to urban redevelopment
When we embarked on our mission to redevelop East Village, we knew that infrastructure improvements would be crucial catalysts for public and private sector investment and development. Our investment of $396 million into East Village infrastructure—beginning with the basics like flood mitigation and pedestrian oriented sidewalks—has attracted $3 billion of planned development…with more to come.
Our infrastructure improvements included significant flood control measures that proved their worth during Calgary’s 2013 floods.
With close attention to sidewalks, traffic-calming, lighting and other streetscaping enhancements, we ensure the pedestrian takes precedence.
The 4th Street SE underpass, new roads like Riverfront Avenue, and 9th Ave SE’s conversion to two-way traffic improve the commuter experience.
Our innovative stormwater wetland on Fort Calgary’s northwest corner filters stormwater, enhances flood control and provides wildlife habitat.
