CMLC Welcomes New Board Members
This summer, we successfully filled vacancies on our board of directors with three very capable individuals. We are confident that Shannon Doram, Rod Graham and Adam Pekarsky will be excellent additions to the team. With new board chair Randy Magnussen at the helm, we’re well positioned to achieve more great things for Calgary!
CMLC’s 12-member board of directors—comprised of elected officials and community members—are appointed by our sole shareholder, the City of Calgary. The diversity and depth of knowledge our board members bring to the organization are instrumental in CMLC’s success, which is why our recruitment efforts target skillsets and experience relevant to our operations and our current areas of focus.
CMLC filled three board vacancies this summer following a quest for candidates who will help guide CMLC’s upcoming work on city-building projects like the new event centre, the BMO Centre expansion and our first project outside the Rivers District, the David D. Oughton school site.
Shannon Doram—president and CEO of YMCA Calgary—works with diverse public and private partners, sponsors and donors in pursuit of YMCA’s goal of healthy and vibrant communities. Driven by a passion for community-building and leadership, Shannon leads YMCA and other leadership initiatives across Canada, the US and beyond.
Rod Graham is president and CEO of Horizon North, a Calgary-based modular construction firm. He sits on the Dean’s Advisory Council at Thompson Rivers University, has served on several public, private and not-for-profit boards, and is currently a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Business Council of Canada. Rod holds an HBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and a CFA and MBA (Ivey Scholar) from the University of Western Ontario.
As a founding partner of Pekarsky & Co.—a Calgary-based, independently owned and operated executive search firm—Adam Pekarsky has been recruiting executives, advising boards and offering thought leadership to western Canadian businesses for nearly 20 years. He previously served on Tourism Calgary’s board and is a current director with YMCA Calgary’s board. Adam is also a sessional instructor at U of C’s Faculty of Law. He earned his LLB at University of Alberta and a bachelor’s in political science at Tufts University in Boston.
We extend a warm welcome to Shannon, Rod and Adam and look forward to their expertise and insights over the next four years.
In addition, four-year board veteran Randy Magnussen was appointed as board chair. This is also where we express our deep appreciation for the dozen years that Lyle Edwards has dedicated to CMLC. Lyle is stepping down as board chair, having served in his position since CMLC’s creation in 2007. He presided over CMLC as it grew from one employee to 21 and led us in transforming East Village from forgotten to flourishing. We're grateful for all his guidance over the years and are delighted that Lyle will continue to serve on our board.
