About This Event

Through the Olympic Plaza Transformation project, Olympic Plaza will be revitalized as an inclusive, accessible, arts-focused gathering space.

Before the plaza closes at the end of 2024 to begin construction on the Arts Commons Transformation expansion and the Olympic Plaza Transformation (OPT) project, Calgarians are invited to commemorate the plaza’s Olympic bricks by registering for one of six free, family-friendly Brick by Brick events through the month of September. CMLC’s team will be on site to help Calgarians find their brick inscription, and a photographer will be available to capture photos of Calgarians and the bricks. CMLC will also provide materials for Calgarians to do and take home a name rubbing of the brick inscription.

Register to attend one of the following Brick by Brick events:

  • Tuesday, September 3, 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Friday, September 6, 5:00 – 7:00pm
  • Sunday, September 8, 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Monday, September 9, 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Wednesday, September 11, 3:00 – 7:00pm
  • Saturday, September 14, 10:00am – 2:00pm

When you arrive at Olympic Plaza, head to the circular stage where you’ll spot a white tent. Our CMLC team will be there to welcome you and provide the event materials.

Locating Your Inscription

Before the event begins, you can locate a brick inscription using the Olympic Brick Finder, enter the inscription (which can be found on the original purchase certificate) into the search field. Brick inscriptions are not searchable by purchaser name for privacy considerations.

Staff will be available to help guide individuals through the Olympic Brick Register containing purchaser information in person at The City of Calgary Archives Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Appointments to view the register will not be required, however if you would like to research additional information regarding Olympic Plaza other than the Olympic Brick Register, please make an appointment to visit the Archives. More information on records held at The City of Calgary Archives and the ability to search the portal can be found at www.calgary.ca/archives

Please note that due to weather and general wear and tear, many bricks have been damaged over the years, and may have been removed from the plaza to reduce tripping hazards. The brick images in this tool were taken in 2018, and while bricks might appear in the Finder, it’s possible that they have been damaged and removed in the years since.
